30 de julho The preferance for the obstreperousSilence has been dethroned from the 'golden' crown. Long live silence!
People like it loud, in-your-face and completely confronting anyone's sensibilities. Because they believe it gets the work done so much better. I believe it also somewhat links up to the fear of emasculation by circumstances. I believe that the fear is more about being perceived by otehrs as having been emasculated. And silence has been misconstrued as cowardice, meeknes, weakness and in rather secxist terms, effeminate. Not the restrained reasonable response that it often conveys.
Being masculine is "in"..apparently. Ever so often there will be women who believe that being masculine (involves swearing, smoking, binging, doping etc) is asserting their feminity, their rights and their equality. Wow, I think it shows how stupid one can be. Especially 'cos masculinity has been derided with stereotypical connotations that neither sex wants to get rid off. Anyway, this piece is not about masculinities. Its about being loud.
We see news channels blowing up so-called news. A small child gets stuck in a hole and every minute is being recorded and he becomes a hero overnight- and rich! Now maybe we will have people throwing their kids into pits- to get some primetime on TV and also some money from respective govts that do little to cover manholes or manhole-sized potholes!
Then we have some definitely crazy kids driving into the PM's residence 'cos they felt like "meeting the PM"!!!!!!!!...if they had done smthing more stupid inside, they cud have been shot dead..but all they had to say was "why cant we meet the PM?"...yes, the PM is like your uncle who will give u toffies everytime every citizen of india comes calling...esp cos obviously he has nothing else to do!
Then we have some complete dickheads who call up cops saying that there is some bomb somewhere or write e-mails that they want to kill the President! Yeah, cos the cops also have nothing better to than check out false alarms and track pranksters down. 'cos cops can do everything on their own without any cooperation from the public...
Then, talking about some people who dont deserve to be called bikers. They like 'big' bikes cos it makes them feel more 'manly'...they like the loud irritating noise cos its 'masculine'...they like to ride fast cos that, they believe is what biking is about!...
And a very general disorder we all face is swearing in times of crisis cos that seems to allow us to vent. Seems to. And shouting our head off to get things done. Swearing and cursing seems to have become one of our unsoken birthrights that we feel we shud be allowed to indulge in whenever wherever. I pity the goddamn %&*$#*@ fools!
I think everybody is out to grab as much attention as possible for themselves. Probably they were neglected at home. Probably they were bullied in school & college. Probably they have such boring lives that they want to live it up with their 5 minutes of fame that cud possibly mark them for life, apart from wasting everyone else's time and being annoying pests. The media trying to survive the cut-throat competition just does not help at all and will be riddled with its own politics playing just as dirty inside the industry.
The best way to grab attention is to be loud. Irrespective of whether it gets the job done or not. Atleast people will watch. And that's all that is important it seems. Even at the cost of looking stupid, its seem to be worth it. To hell with self-resepct. 13 de julho AcridAt most times, life doesnt seem fair. Other times, it feels like nothing could go wrong. And yet in some other situations, when everything goes right, we are waiting for something to go wrong 'cos we feel that nothing can go so right in our lives!
It's just not the case of the glass been half full or half empty. Or about seeing life thru rose tinted glasses. Or counting ur chickens before they hatch. Or any of the sentimentality-overdosed and cliche phrases passed on as wisdom. It's realy very simple. We are bitter. Harsh reality but true to the T.
People lose their jobs and go to kill-my-boss websites or join boxing clases to take out the frustration. It happens again and they miight binge. A third time and they might cry perhaps.
People lose their girlfriends/boyfriends. They cry. Then they lose them again. They vent. A thiird time they go stark raving mad and hate womanhood/men for eternity. Till they find someone new.
Somebody cuts into theiir lane as they r driving downtown. They let it be. It happens again. They shake their heads. It happens for a third time. They gesticulate and glare at the offender. A fourth time, and we have a chain reaction of the same offendin action!
Anger? Nah...just people being bitter. hahaha, u wud disagree i reckon. But think about it. Thiink about the source of all anger. Bitterness- a byproduct of all the shit that accumulates in one's lifetime because it has been allowed to accumulate. Like a piece of mould, which if not removed, will keep growing and take over the host.
We get bitter probably cos that is how we want to be. Or perhaps 'cos we think its justiified what with everything happening in our lives. Damn everything else that is bright n sunny in our lives. We like the clouds better than the sunlight, cos it gets too hot out here!
Ah, if everything was simple. 11 de julho "My problem is the biggest"Yes it is.
I dont care whether a poor man can have his meals or not
I dont care if he has got no clothes to keep him warm
I dont care if he's got no place to sleep
I dont give a damn cos I got my problems too.
I dont care if someone walks in the rain with one shoe
I dont care if his foot gets stuck in a hole
I dont care even if he gets electrocuted
I dont give a damn cos i got my problems too.
I dont care if a son lost his father or mother or whoever
I dont care if he is now an orphan
I dont care if he doesnt even find a new home
I dont give a damn cos i got my problems too.
I dont care if someone got hit by a speeding truck
I dont care if he lost his limb or two
I dont care if he cant walk for the rest of his liife
I dont give a damn cos I got my own problems too.
I dont care if all the trees are destroyed forever
I dont care if that means the earth's getting warmer
I dont care if the ice age arrives
I dont give a damn cos i got my problems too.
I dont care if somone's truck got stolen
I dont care if it had your goods
I dont care if that was all you had
I dont give a damn cos I got my own problems too.
I dont care if your wife cheated on you
I dont care if you have to file for divorce
I dont care if you are heart broken
I dont give a damn cos I got my problems too.
I dont care if you lost your money in the market
I dont care if you are flat broke
I dont care if you have to rot in jail
I dont give a damn cos I got my own problems too. I dont care if some kid had to give his chocolates to a bully
I dont care if someone drowned in a pool
I dont care if my country lost the match
I dont give a damn cos I got my problems too.
You are telling me your problems
but they cant be bigger than mine
You have got it easy and unlike me
very soon everything's going to be fine.
You will never understand my loss
for you cry for your silly petty things
you'll be fine soon, faster than you know
I wish i was called on by the kid with wings.
Never compare my problem with yours
I will feel nothing just as u dont feel mine
I have to get up and start walking again
And make this life seem just fine.
I wonder why I have to face this test
I wonder why you got it so easy
I wonder when will all this end
I wonder what they mean when they say its for the best.
I feel horrid, and u say u can understand.
let me tell you, you cant and never will
for whats important to me, is not important to you
cos you will never understand what it means to me
sometimes I wonder if even I can...
Football-acme or just a game?Soccer or football, as we call it, is probably one of th most watched sports that manages to evoke varied emotions among people. Just like any sport, and yet not like any other sport. People seek perfection, they want glory and they want it now.
People will talk about WC 2006 for its 300+ yellow cards, the bloodbath between Italy and US and Zidane losing his head (pun intended). The fans have always been uncouth and rowdy as ever but maybe, just maybe, more disciplined than in previoius tornaments. Anger is probablythe most visible form of emotion-be it fans fighting, players tripping their opponents or even head-butting them!!...and what to say about the new found actiing skills of most players to win improbable free kicks and penalties. With 5 referees, things seemed to have gotten worse!
Ellation and ecstacy did come up and those are the scenes everyone wants to see but with so much fruustration around, its hard to not get angry.
Closer home, we guys play football in the nearby field...usually we do manage a full team of 11 on ether side- it doesnt matter really. Its a free for all, noone bothers aboutt strategies or defending!...and emotions run just as high. Especially when it comes to"fouls". There was this fistfight between three guys- 2 versus 1- over a foul where the foulee was pissed off with the persistent unfair playing tactics of his opponent. Angry words followed and then that led to fists and legs flying at each other. A lot of dust was kicked around and we had to break the fighting parties and resume the game-but the tension was too much and we all went home earliier than usual. Who was at fault? Everyone involved. And sometimes, one wonders what crybabies we have there...if smone is going to have the ball and one attempts to snatch the ball away, he might hit the legs alonng with the ball- but its no reason to stop play. Cos if that happend in FIFA matches then we wud have 10-20 minutes of stoppage time after each half! Here the kiddies want a free-kiick and often lose their cool...irresspectve of the fact that they might have commited more grievious fouls on others. And smtimes it is sheer despration also- especiially if they have been having a bad game and the alleged fouler has been takin the ball away from the supposed foulee all match long. Yes, i have been in such a situation and did not mirror their reaction- am proud of that for I always have faith in humanity to grow up.
The only problem is, I migh be expecting too much. Football is just a game one shud enjoy. To others, it is religion. Fine. Problem arises when they become fanatics- noone likes fanatics.
-A much feared alleged 'fouler' 04 de julho The abstruce art of abnegating!U can give only when u have something- the movie Samsara had the protagonist wondering this. It is true. When can u ask someone to give up something when he/she hasnt had it in the first place. Renunciation is possible only when u own smthing. Or is it?
Our lives-ok, lets say, MY life has been a consequence of the sequence of the life around me. I have learnt so much through my own personal experiences as well as from other people's varied experiences. I do not completely agree wiith the notion that one has to experience everything in life to decide if it is good or bad for them. My earlier post on why we do things even when we know it might be potentially fatal for us...the answers are unclear and I do not suggest completing obliterating the experiential part where we go and get ourselves bitten by the dog, but smtimes we just know how much that is going to hurt thru our (or other's) experiences. U know, things like bloood, exposed flesh and the screams n howls of the bitee are enough indicators.
Anyhow, so how do we decide what we need to give up? That is highly subjective for all of us and anyone who says he/she has the answer is a liar. Thereis no such thing as "the" answer- there are answers but those that suit different people differently. And yet we can possibly find certain universallities.
We can give up things that have lost value in our lives at present but we will never know if they will become important later on.
We can give up those things in life that we do not even think about most of the times, but sometimes what we dont think about is the things that need to be though about for they unconsciusly ruin a lot of our other decisions.
We can try to renounce the habits we find most disgusting in us and which completely is messing up our lives.
Much of what we can give up, thus, is based on what has affected our lives negatively and that which we once had. But it is equally possible to give up that which has affected others in a certain harmful way- like drugs, fags, laziness, temper etc. People say it is necesary to experience the bad to know the good, but if u cannot relate with smone else's experiences, it is mostly 'cos many times we cannot relate with ourselves. "cos we always have this lingering doubt about ourselves and what we can achieve and what we desire. I have often believed and seen and experienced that to convince ourselves about anything at all does not take absolutely any time. The mind is a powerful being on its own.
However one question remains- what about the people who give up their true loves because their truue loves might be in love with other people? What about those who do not follow a certain career path to choose another? What about those who give up chicken, from birth, juust 'cos they were born into a vegetarian family?..etc etc
Ah, if only we had as many answers as questions. |
